Obese Children
Child obesity as well as type two diabetes (among children) has been found to be quite prevalent in the present
scenario. An overweight child faces various obstacles in their daily activities which can even affect their future life. So parents are needed to take some special care of their kids. With some easy support & encouragement you can easily make the situation quite comfortable for your child.
Try to support them in every aspect:
• Whatever his or her weight is always accept them with their weight. Your feelings towards then will inspire your child very much.
• Express your love to your child. Make them understand that they are very much loved by you all.
• You need to have the patience to listen to your over weight kids. They truly need your encouragement as well as support.
Inspire them for healthy eating habits:
• You can purchase a few snacks like chips, candy, cookies etc, but make sure that you are loaded with other healthy snacks.
• Make a habit of eating meals together with the entire family. It will help them to appreciate various types of foods.
• Try to purchase more vegetables as well as fruits. Take your kids to grocery & allow them to choose their favourite one.
• Instead of offering your child fruit juice try to convince then to ingest water or milk (low fat), because fruit juice often contains high calories.
• Don’t encourage then to skip their breakfast. It will make them tired & also can instigate other health problems.
• Never promise them to give ice cream if they finish your vegetables. It will convey the wrong message to them.
• Don’t force them to eat. Begin with small quantities of food. They will ask for more when they are really hungry.
• Sometimes kids take some quality time to adjust with new foods, so in such a situation instead of getting angry try to support them.
Some healthy snacks:
Instead of high calorie fast foods try to give them yoghurt (low fat) with fruits, fruit syrup or canned juice, some dried fruits like- raisins, apricots or apples, fresh vegetables like- tomatoes, carrots, cucumber etc, crackers (whole wheat) with (very small amount) peanut butter, fresh fruits etc.
Impress them for regular workouts:
• Always cheer them to join various team sports or dance classes etc.
• Make yourself an ideal role model for them. They follow you in various aspects in their life. When you stand as a physically active person it will definitely inspire them.
• Don’t encourage them to indulge in any adult type of exercises like weight lifting, treadmill etc.
• Together with the family enjoy some activities like- washing car, vacuuming floor etc. You can also plan for some zoo visit or picnic at your local park.
• Be careful of their comfortableness, when they are not enjoying some activity don’t force them to do that.
